Venezuela Earthquakes

On Wednesday 24th June, a 7.2 earthquake was quickly followed by a 7.5 magnitude quake, causing major destruction in the capital city of Caracas and across the state of La Guaira.

The devastation is widespread. The number of casualties is rising by the hour. Life has changed for hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of minutes. Venezuela was already facing humanitarian needs. People are doing what they can in the search and rescue efforts, trying to locate survivors. International aid is being committed.

Join us in Prayer:

Pray for all the people who are searching for loved ones as they deal with the trauma of the devastation.

Pray for the first responders. There are trained responders, and there are neighbours helping neighbours.  Pray for safety, strength, and endurance as they search for people trapped in the rubble.

Tearfund Ireland is monitoring this crisis. We will update our website if we have a mechanism to get aid funding to support the relief efforts.

Ebola Outbreak

In May an outbreak of Ebola was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This strain of the Ebola virus is different from the strains have affected people in the past and this strain has no cure – and a 50% mortality rate.

Our sister organisation, Tearfund (UK), has a team in DRC that is working with local churches and community leaders to reduce the spread of this contagious disease by providing hygiene supplies and accurate information.

 Join us in Prayer:

Pray for all the people who are infected and those who have lost loved ones to this disease.

Pray that fear and suspicion will not take root among the communities.

Pray that Tearfund staff and others can effectively communicate the facts about the disease in ways that people can understand and take appropriate action.

Conflict Related Humanitarian Crises

There are many tragic, heart-breaking crises affecting millions of people around the world. Tearfund Ireland works with local partners in some of the regions, but not all. However, we continue to pray for God’s intervention to bring an end to the violence, protection for people, and for peace-filled, flourishing communities that are free from poverty and injustice.

Many of these conflicts are not in our news headlines. All of them are having devastating impacts on the lives of people, who are forced to endure injury, hunger, displacement, violence and abuse, and fear and trauma.

Join us in Prayer:

Pray that those in positions of power who make decisions to begin, continue, or escalate conflict will have a change of heart.

Pray for peace-makers who will find creative solutions to end conflict.

Pray that people who are suffering because of these conflicts will receive the appropriate aid, assistance, and support.

Pray for all the organisations who are providing humanitarian aid – that they will have the funds necessary to help meet the needs, the staff will be kept safe in the delivery of aid, and the staff will have the endurance and hope to persevere in their work.

Our Father in heaven, holy is your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today, our daily bread;

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;

For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Amen.
