Help communities devastated by floods in Nepal.
On August 26, a massive collapse of ice, rock and debris surged into a mountain river along the border of Nepal and Tibet.
The floods swept through villages, destroyed homes, schools, roads, bridges, and infrastructure, leaving many communities cut off from help.
The disaster occurred during peak commuting hours on Wednesday morning local time resulting in hundreds of people losing their lives. Hundreds are missing as search and rescue efforts continue.
People watched as the homes of their friends and neighbours were washed away. Many are searching for loved ones among the survivors.
How Tearfund Ireland is responding
We are responding through our Tearfund Family. Three members of the Tearfund Family have been working with local partners in Nepal for many years. These partners supported communities in the aftermath of the 2015 Nepali earthquake and they know how to get essential items to the communities most affected.
The communities affected have already been vulnerable and an event like this further increases the risks they face.
We are providing much need urgent support to ensure people have shelter, water, food, and hygiene kits.
Families and communities are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

- The flooding has significantly damaged homes, markets, schools, transport infrastructure and hydropower projects.
- Some indications suggest that this event could be the worst flooding disaster in the country since the 1990s. Humanitarian needs are significant.
- The worst-affected areas include Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and surrounding districts along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
- The death toll continues to climb and hundreds of people from around the world have been reported missing.
