Ways to Give

You can give to a specific area of our work or give wherever the need is greatest. Through general donations we are able to respond quickly wherever the need arises, and provide long-term solutions to the underlying causes of poverty and disasters.

There are many ways you can give to Tearfund.

Give regularly

Your regular gift really helps us in our work worldwide. It enables us to plan effectively and faithfully support our local partner organisations. Download and complete the Regular Giving form and send it to us (available shortly).

You can give to specific areas of need or if you’d prefer, you can let us decide where your money should go and we will prioritise areas of greatest need.

If you want to amend the amount or details of an existing Direct Debit, please call us on 01-878 3200.

Gifts greater than €5000

Becoming a major donor is an opportunity to invest in transforming lives. You can choose to make a one-off donation or provide funding over a number of years.

You can fund projects on your own or in a group with family, friends or colleagues. We want to help you identify a project in an area or country that you feel passionate about. At Tearfund, we know that extreme poverty takes away people’s choices, but that it can’t take away their ability or potential. With your help, we can support that potential. Giving to a specific project enables you to engage closely with a partner and its beneficiaries in the developing world: trips to meet partners and see work in action are sometimes feasible.

We can also provide detailed project proposals and budgets. Contact our office at 01-878 3200 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we can discuss the options with you in greater detail.

Legacies

The gift of life. Leave a legacy to Tearfund and you enable life to go on even after you’re no longer here. Your will can be a last act of love to those you leave behind. In it, you can provide practically for those most significant in your life and ensure they hear your last words and wishes. And it mirrors Jesus: allowing new life to come even from death.

According to a recent survey, 76 per cent of UK 25 to 44-year-olds haven’t made a will. If you die without a valid will, it can be an enormous stress to your family and lawyers will spend a lot of time – and your money – sorting out your affairs. It’s a recipe for heartache, disputes and discord – and probably isn’t how you’d like them to remember you.

Colin Crooks, 59, a civil engineer, has written Tearfund into his will. ‘It’s good to know I’m going to be doing something good after I’ve died. I was already a big supporter and I wanted to continue supporting.’

Companies and Trusts

Grant-making trusts and companies are an important source of income for Tearfund, often providing us with additional income for projects that we cannot fund from our usual budget.

Like individual supporters, trusts and companies can give in a number of different ways, to a wide variety of causes. Some prefer to support specific Tearfund projects in areas of the world close to trustees’ hearts. Others prefer to rely on our expertise to see that the money is used where we feel it will have the greatest impact.

Giving to a specific project enables you to engage closely with a partner and its beneficiaries in the developing world: trips to meet partners and see work in action are sometimes feasible. We can also provide detailed project proposals and budgets.

If you represent or know of a grant-making trust or company that would be interested in giving to Tearfund then contact our office at 01-878 3200 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Also, many companies also encourage their employees to take the initiative for fund-raising. If you have the opportunity to select a charity that your company will support, why not suggest Tearfund? If you do, we’re happy to supply resources for your office and information to put in your newsletter.

Partnerships with institutional donors

Tearfund highly values its partnership with institutional donors.

It’s a partnership that goes beyond a simple financial arrangement and builds relationships that shape donor and Tearfund thinking, policy and response to relief and development.

Over the years, the partnership with institutional donors has given Tearfund continuing opportunities to advocate on behalf of the poor – to lobby and campaign those in authority to influence international and national responses to poverty reduction. Moreover, in its close partnership with, and understanding of, the local church and church-based organisations, Tearfund is well-placed to converse with institutional donors on the role of faith in relief and development.

Accountability is important, and the often rigorous donor demands for accurate application of funds and proper actions have assisted Tearfund and its civil society organisation partners to reinforce their processes and systems to emphasise accountability and focus on evidence-based results.

Finally – the grant support that Tearfund and its partners receive from institutional donors has become increasingly important in our work to reduce suffering and bring hope to those most vulnerable in society. The programmes and actions supported by institutional donors are extensive and make a vital contribution to tackling poverty in a wider partnership with other donors, Tearfund supporters, partner organisations and the local communities themselves.

Tearfund is currently supported by Irish Aid, the Irish government’s overseas aid programme.
